Professional Biography:
Jessica Sferrazza was first elected to the Ward 3 Council seat in November 2000, becoming the youngest Council Member ever elected in the City's history at age 27. Since that time, Councilwoman Sferrazza has dedicated many of her efforts to revitalizing previously neglected areas of the City, with particular attention to the Wells Avenue corridor and, more recently, the Oliver/Montello area. As a result of the Councilwoman's efforts, both have undergone a remarkable transformation under her tenure. Her dedication to the revitalization of Wells Avenue, in conjunction with her continued prioritization of strict code enforcement, has resulted in the beautification of the neighborhoods in her ward. Councilwoman Sferrazza has also actively sought to engage the City's youth in civic life, and remains committed to improving government for the citizens of Reno.
Among Jessica’s many other accomplishments are:
· National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP) Community Service Award recipient in 2008
· "Top 20 under 40" young professionals award recipient in 2007
· United States Department of Urban Development “Most Valuable Partner in Home Ownership” 2007 recipient
· Nevada Women’s Fund “Woman of Achievement” 2004 recipient
· Nevada Humane Society “Community Animal Protection” 2002 recipient
· Initiation of a bond question to construct and consolidate a new regional animal shelter which received 60% voter approval in 2002
· Creation of the Affordable Housing Task Force in 2006, bringing together members of the business community and partners in affordable housing.
Personal:
Jessica has lived in the state of Nevada for 33 years and graduated from Sparks High School with honors. She is currently in the process of obtaining a Certified Public Official Program Certificate from the University of Nevada, Reno. In addition, she has completed courses towards her Bachelor's degree at Truckee Meadows Community College and the University of Nevada, Reno.
