What are Neighborhood Advisory Boards?

The City of Reno has eight Neighborhood Advisory Boards (NABs), composed of a minimum of nine (9) resident members and no more than thirteen (13) who live in each Reno neighborhood. The members are a group of volunteers who are appointed by the Reno City Council for two-year terms. The meetings provide an arena for residents to voice their concerns related to such issues as new development projects, police protection, code enforcement, neighborhood planning, and other neighborhood concerns. The NABs advise the City Council on policy that affects neighborhoods throughout the community.

You can download a copy of the 2010 NAB meeting schedule. Or, check out the online City calendar. Note: The NAB's do not meet in December.

Community Pride Grants (CPG)
Created by the Reno City Council in 1988, CPG funds are allocated on a per capita basis at the beginning of each fiscal year. Projects are as diverse as each advisory board. In addition to the City's funding criteria below, each NAB can establish additional CPG criteria to meet the goals of their strategic plan.

The criteria is as follows:

  • no funding which creates a contract for year-to-year services
  • hiring of individuals is prohibited
  • any item which creates a Board member profit will not be allowed
  • a gift must be made to a non-profit as defined by IRS
  • items or service may be purchased from a non-profit
  • a NAB must detail the rationale for approval and disapproval to the Council

Examples of Community Pride Grant projects include:

  • Terrace Sports Complex Field Lighting
  • Two-Flume Pool Slide at Trainer Pool
  • Revitalization of Yori Park
  • Neighborhood Watch program in Donner Springs
  • Virginia Lake Dog Park
  • Peavine Elementary School Playground Equipment
  • Lights on the Riverwalk along the Truckee River
